Miss Anita began dancing at the age of 3 1/2 and continued her studies with Nellie Cook until she was 20. At 17 she was accepted as a New York Junior Rockette. Miss Anita extended her dance education by studying under numerous masters, including Frank Hatchett, Jo Jo Smith, Mary Jane Brown, Charles Kelley, Steven Boyd, Luigi and David DeMarie. She has also received many college credits in Dance Education through an intensive Course given by Dance Educators of America. Currently certified by Dance Educators of America in tap, jazz and ballet, Miss Anita has taught tap, jazz and ballet to children, teens and adults for the past 35 years. She also taught ballroom dance to couples and groups for 10 years. In January 1975, Miss Anita combined her love of children with her love of dance and founded Anita’s Studio of Dance and Theatre Arts. She has conducted workshops for various children’s groups, and also worked with several of the Northport-East Northport School District Elementary schools incorporating dance into their physical education curriculum. Miss Anita orchestrated, directed and performed with her own dance company from 1975 through 2003, and she continues to direct the dance companies at her studio today. Past performances of these dance companies include: the East Northport Festival, the Huntington Fall Festival, St. Hugh’s Parish Outreach Toys for Tots Christmas Show, performances at Developmental Disabilities Institute in Huntington, as well as assemblies at various local elementary and middle schools. Miss Anita is married with two daughters, Carolyn and Barbara, and four grandchildren, Michael, Nicole, Gianna and Isabella.

Barbara Challice

Miss Barbara has been dancing since she was three years old, and teaching dance since age 18. She has studied under such masters as Charles Kelly, Frank Hatchett, Steven Boyd and Patricia Dickinson. From 1984 to 1993 she performed professionally with B’Dazzled, a Long Island dance company. B’Dazzled performed at numerous charity benefits with many well known celebrities. Miss Barbara also choreographed for Northport High School’s Tigerette kickline. She is certified by Dance Educators of America. Miss Barbara is Business Manager manager at the dance studio, in addition to teaching several classes. She holds a Bachelors of Business Administration from Adelphi University. Miss Barbara is married with two children.

Serge Aly
Serge Aly

Serge “Push-Push” a.k.a “Power Surge” Aly – with nicknames given to him by world-renowned dancers Don “Campellock” Campbell and Victor “Glyde” Alicea of the Dynamic Rockers, it is quite evident what type of dancer and teacher Serge is.

Serge has been involved in New York’s underground Hip-Hop and House scene since the early 80’s. He began dancing at the age of 10. His skills include Campbellocking, Popping-Boogaloo, Hip-Hop and House. In his years of dancing, Serge has been blessed to perform at underground clubs across the U.S., and in major venues such as Turner Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia and the Hippodrome in London, England.

He has taught at many schools, camps and workshops — New York’s own Hip-Hop Shop, Peri Dance Center, Broadway Dance Center, and the UCPA. His patience with students seeking to improve their skills or move into improvisation has earned him the respect and endorsements of many well-known, highly respected Hip Hop dancers, choreographers, and teachers.

Carolyn Chave
Carolyn Chave
Carolyn is looking forward to her 18th year as a teacher at Anita’s Studio of Dance. She started dancing at Anita’s when she was 12 years old and immediately knew that dance was all she wanted to do! In high school, Carolyn was captain of the Northport Tigerettes Kickline for which she also choreographed. While attending SUNY Geneseo, she studied dance and participated in the Geneseo Knightline Dance team. Upon her transfer to attend college at home, she began student teaching at Anita’s and studying at Broadway Dance Center. She went on to earn her certification as a Dance Educator and her college degree in Math. Carolyn is married and a busy mom to her two sons and daughter.
Kelly Coghlan
Kelly Coghlan
Born and raised in Long Island, New York, Kelly is an established Equity Performer. During her sophomore year of high school she started her professional training at Broadway Dance Center, under the direction of Frank Hatchett. While studying physical therapy at Fordham University she was accepted into Broadway Dance Center’s intensive. She has been trained by Michele Assaf, A.C. Ciulla, Fins Jhung, Mia Michaels, Chio, Sheryl Murakami and Ginger Cox. Kelly has danced along side Chris Chadman, Tommy Tune, Ann Reinking and Savion Glover in “A Demand Performance” at Lincoln Center. Other professional credits include: Film – Home Alone 2, and A Bronx Tale; Commercial – Dr. Pepper; Stock/Regional – A Chorus Line, Grease, Pippin, 42nd Street and Annie; National Tour – Sesame Street Live. In 2009 Kelly started her dance company, POSH Dance Productions. Since than POSH has performed in music videos for artists such as, Salena Dabbs and Jaymee Frankel. POSH has performed at the Paramount and other venues in NYC and NJ. POSH caters to their clients desires with choreographed routines to fit any style of dance. Continuing her training on Long Island and NYC, Kelly is excited to be entering her 16th year at Anita’s Studio of Dance. With over 20 years of teaching experience Kelly continues to grow as a teacher and choreographer. Her competition pieces have won numerous awards and placed top scores year after year. Kelly’s greatest joy is to see her students succeed at what they love to do, whether its dance or another passion they may have. “ALWAYS DANCE WITH YOUR HEART”

 

Jeannie Dunkel

Miss Jeannie has had the pleasure of working at Anita’s Studio of Dance and Theatre Arts for over 10 years. Jeannie began dancing at age three and has been teaching dance for almost 20 years. Jeannie received a Bachelor of Arts in Dance and a Master of Science in Education both from Hofstra University. Trained in the Ceccheti and Vagonava techniques, she studied Ballet with Lance Westergard and Diane Lichtenberg. With Robin Becker, Stormy Brandenberger and Cathy McCann-Buck Jeannie trained in the Graham, Taylor and Horton methods of Modern dance. As part of her degree requirements, Jeannie studied Choreography, Dance and Drama Production, Methods of Teaching Dance and Anatomy, Physiology and Kinesiology for the Dancer. As a member of the Hofstra Dance Theatre, DanceWorks Productions and MoVoM, Jeannie had the privilege of working with choreographers from dance companies such as Paul Taylor, Martha Graham, Josè Limon and Joffrey Ballet. Miss Jeannie represented Hofstra at the American College Dance Festival at Penn State University and received the Upperclassman Dance Merit Scholarship.
In addition to making cameos on the stage with her students and colleagues here at Anita’s, Jeannie’s artistic accomplishments include New York Dance Theatre’s Nutcracker (Toy Soldier); Brookhaven Theatre Dance Guild’s Dance Spectrum (Ensemble Dancer); Plaza Productions’ Tri-State tour of Carousel(Beauty of Europe/Swing); Hofstra University Cultural Center’s Courting the Jester: The Life of Danny Kaye (Vera Ellen); Brookhaven Dance Festival’s Dans Trax: Celebrating a Legacy of Dance (Guest Alumni Dancer). At Anita’s Miss Jeannie has choreographed and directed the various Tap and Lyrical Companies and for the last several years has been choreographing and teaching for the studio’s successful competition team.

While dance is (and will always be) Jeannie’s first love, she has recently broadened her scope into the world of fitness. Jeannie recently became a Certified Group Fitness Instructor with the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America and is teaching Cardio Kickboxing at a local Jiu-Jitsu Academy. She is also CPR/AED Certified through the American Red Cross. Outside of the dance studio Miss Jeannie is an active member of her community. Her two boys, Ethan and Jake surely keep her on her toes!

Trish Hart
Trish Hart
An accomplished stage and television performer, and a successful veteran of the pageant world, Trish Hart has been in the entertainment industry for over two decades, As a child she played Julia Scott on the ABC soap opera “The Edge of Night,” and as a teenager appeared on the CBS soap opera “As the World Turns,” She was miss New York 1996, and was third runner-up at the national level, Trish has worked throughout the United States as a choreographer and production manager for numerous live shows and competitions. She also enjoyed serving as the Dance 8. Theatre Director at Camp Tioga in Thompson, PA for many years, Trish now enjoys her summers home on Ll teaching dance @ Miss Sue’s in Plainview, She has taught several of the country’s top child actors and models, who have appeared in national magazines, commercials, TV show, and movies, Trish majored in Special/Elementary Education at CW Post Long Island University. In her free time, she enjoys shopping, traveling and spending time with her family and friends, especially her husband Nick and twins Nicky & Julia.

Mary Maldonado

Mary is very excited to be returning to the studio “who made me the dancer that I am today.” She has been dancing since the age of 3, trained in areas such as Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical and Ballet under the instruction of Anita Goldstein, Kelly Coghlan, Carolyn Gangemi, Jose de la Cuesta, Elvire Seibert and others. During her high school years she was a part of the Commack Varsity Cougarettes and the Competition team here at Anita’s Studio of Dance & Theatre Arts, winning many awards throughout the years. When she graduated from high school she joined a dance team called the Brooklyn Cyclones Beach Bums (minor league for the Mets) and was a member for two years. In 2014 she was asked to take part dancing in an independent film called “Umbrellas Kill” starring Christopher Brian Roach. She also performed at Theatre Three in Port Jefferson at the premier of the movie. Mary went to Farmingdale University and completed her Health Studies degree, along with her Medical Assisting degree from Branford Hall. She is currently re-enrolled at Farmingdale University to finish her Bachelors Degree in Bioscience. Dance has always been Mary’s love and passion, and will continue to be for many years to come!

William Matos
William Matos
William Matos began his dance training at Anita’s Studio of Dance and Theater Arts at the age of 13 under the instruction
of Gia Mele, Kelly Coghlan, Lee-Ann Bruno and José de la Cuesta. Throughout his years at Anita’s, he trained in Hip Hop, Ballet, Modern, Jazz, and Lyrical as well as being a
member of the competition team for 5 years. Will won Best Male Dancer awards at the Adrenaline Dance Convention in New Jersey, at the NYLA Dance Convention and Competition in New York, and was an International Dance Organization finalist for the World Hip Hop Team. After graduating high school, Will attended Binghamton University and went on to receive a B.S. in Human Development. While in college, Will was accepted into the Summer Internship Program at Broadway Dance Center and received extensive training from renowned teachers such as Dorit Koppel, Jeff Amsden, Sheila Barker, Sheryl Murakami, Derek Mitchell, and Chio. He was a lead dancer in singer/choreographer Oh My Josh’s music video “Out My Face,” and in 2010 danced the title role in the world premier of Pygmalion — a lyrical-ballet choreographed by JoEllen Kuhlman with an original musical score by composer Santino DeAngelo. Since 2011, Will has been an active performer in the modern dance company, Galumpha. He has performed all over the world including Canada, Ireland, Switzerland, and China.

Alyssa Patrone

Alyssa is excited to be entering her third year as a member of the faculty at Anita’s Studio of Dance and Theater Arts. She began dancing with Miss Anita at the age of only 2 1/2, Since then, Alyssa has been trained in many areas of dance such as jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical and contemporary. She was a member of the studio’s National Competition team for eight years and a member of the Senior Company for six years, Alyssa was also a senior captain of her high school dance team, the Northport Tigerettes, and was an alumni chaperone for the team in the summer of 2009. Alyssa also worked closely with the coaches of East Northport Middle School Kickline from 2004-2006. Alyssa began her professional career as a member of the New York Jet‘s Flight Crew dance team for the 2008 season‘ She also danced for the Brooklyn Cyclones as a member of the Beach Bums in the summer of 2009, This past year, Alyssa joined POSH Dance Productions. a dance company which has opened up performance opportunities at places such as the Bitter End in New York City‘ Aside from teaching at Anita’s, Alyssa is also entering her fourth and final year of college at Hofstra University, She will graduate in May with a Bachelors Degree in History with a minor in Public Relations Alyssa is also the director ofA Midwinter Night’s Dream Philanthropy Center, a non-profit facility that aims to motivate and empower students desires to make a difference in the world by teaching classes and holding lectures.

Anesha Reade
Anesha Reade
Anesha began her dancing career at Anita’s Studio of dance at 5 years old. She has extensive training in lyrical, contemporary, modern, Latin ballroom, ballet, jazz and hip-hop.  Anesha’s expertise in dance has led to many dancing opportunities including being a part of a number of professional dance teams.  She was a member of the Icebreaker Dancers for the New York Islanders, a cheerleader for the Arena Football New York Dragons, as well as being a member on the dance team for the Brooklyn Cyclones.  In addition to professional sports teams, Anesha has also been a part of the performing group “The Angels” as a dancer/back-up singer,  performing at the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City.  She is also a former member of the all-female dance group “Posh Dance Productions.”  Anesha’s competition students over the years have consistently placed in the top 5 and have earned an abundance of platinum and special award winning metals.  At the 2014 KAR Nationals Competition, her students were recognized as National Champions and in 2013, Anesha earned a choreography of the year award at the Bravo Competition.  Anesha’s love for dance has allowed her to become an integral part of the ASD Family.  Anesha is dedicated to her students and proud of all their hard work. She is very excited to watch her students grow and continue to succeed as dancers.

Professional Experience: Brenda Holmes Tunis has appeared in Rolland Petit’s “Can-Can” on Broadway and the original Broadway company of “Lorelei” where she also understudied the lead roles. She has performed at the White House and Ford’s Theatre in Washington DC, in “The All Night Strut” choreographed by Arthur Faria. Brenda was involved in the pre-production and pre-Broadway tour of “Al Jolson Tonight” choreographed by Michael Shawn. She also toured with the “I Love New York” show and Gershwin Revue, both choreographed by Michael Lichtefeld. Brenda was a dancer in the Merchand Ivory film “Jane Austin In Manhattan” starring Ann Baxter. She has performed in numerous stock, dinner theatres, and industrials throughout the country She has trained and performed with the Harkness Ballet in NYC and James Jamison’s Academy of the Dance in Wilmington, Delaware.
